One of the greatest things about tea is that no matter whether it is hot or cold outside, there is an option that is ideal for the situation. As we all know, tea is synonymous with warmth, comfort and nutrition. So, having a cup of tea in the winter can be like giving yourself a warm hug. Plus, the plethora of nutrients in tea helps to cleanse your mind, body and soul. With the cold weather making your body more susceptible to illnesses, having a regular cup of tea can help you to stay healthy in many ways!

Boost your metabolism

There’s no doubt that winters make all of us lazy. So, we can definitely use something that will help us boost our metabolism. Research shows that regularly having a cup of tea or two daily can help to promote fat oxidation in your body and boost your metabolism. Green tea can especially help with this due to its thermogenic properties. The process of thermogenesis helps to burn calories while absorbing and digesting food as it’s being eaten. This significantly helps weight loss as well. Since, our bodies sweat very little in the winter, this process can help to lose weight that we otherwise wouldn’t have.

Boost your mood

Cold weather can often bring feelings of melancholy and other Seasonal Affective Disorders. A nice cup of tea can sometimes be an easy fix for mellow moods. This is because amino acids found in tea can help to induce the production of hormones such as serotonin and dopamine that can help to lift up your mood. Apart from your traditional teas, herbal teas like Rose tea, Jasmine tea and Chamomile tea could also help you to boost your mood.

Soothe colds

Winters can make your immune system lethargic. This, along with the cold weather can be a ruthless combination to cause illnesses such as sore throats, colds and fevers. Having 2-3 warm cups of tea everyday can often help with  common colds, sore throats, fevers and mild chest congestions. Apart from helping to soothe illnesses you have now, regularly drinking tea can also help you to protect yourself from potential illnesses and infections as well. So, as the weather gets colder, pouring yourself a warm cup of tea can pave the way for a healthy winter.

Get rid of your winter laziness

Cold weather usually makes all of us lazy. Experts say this is mainly due to the fact that our bodies absorb less sunlight during the winter which makes us more sleepy and lethargic. This means that we need an additional push from within our bodies to keep us going during the winter. Tea can be a great solution for this. Tea contains a number of stimulants such as caffeine, theobromine, L-theanine and theophylline. This can be a great source of energy for your body. It can help to stimulate our brain, central nervous system and boost our mood which is great to keep you running on your feet on a cold day. In fact, the greatest thing about tea as a stimulant is the fact that, as tea facilitates slow absorption of caffeine, it helps to prevent that “caffeine high” you get from beverages such as coffee which can deplete your energy very quickly.

All in all, tea can be a great beverage to soothe your body, mind and soul during the winter. So, we hope you stay healthy and safe this winter with a warm cup of tea to accompany you. Happy holidays!
